Don’t Be Too Quick To Label People ‘Fraudsters’, Be Sure You Aren’t Involved

Before you keep your face like that of a victim and begin to point fingers at people who you think or know are fraudsters, I vehemently suggest that you take some moments, reflect on your transactions and be sure that your dealings have no iota of fraudulent act infused in them.

Well, it’s no longer news that is appropriate to make the headlines that our society today is corrupt with different sort of crimes, of which fraud is one of those that have taken preeminence. But what is more unappealing about this is that, it is gradually becoming conventional. The new norm. And rather than guarding our hearts and watching our deeds in our little corners, what we’re often quick to do is to place judgement on others but justify our own illegal deeds.

This may be sad to say, but the truth remains that these fraudulent practices are almost becoming the next big thing in our society, and even more terrifying is to know that a good number of youths who are supposed to be exemplars today as the known “leaders of tomorrow” are the fellows dominating the fraud sector.

It’s actually an issue enough to ensue laughter if arguments as to which social class is primarily associated with fraud are tuned in to. The poor perceive that the rich are involved in kinds of unlawful activities, the rich feels that the poor are seeking for every means to extort money from them, and the middle class aren’t even left out. They are believed to fall into any of these categories, as the poor feel that they must have soiled their hands to get what they have, and the rich think that they are unsatisfied and not-so-comfortable, and so they are constantly on the look for any means to get wealthy.

But we forget hastily that fraud is not a matter of societal class but a question of discipline, conviction, belief and value.

The excuses we make for our own illegitimate deeds and how far we go in justifying it, is something that really baffles me. When we are involved, it is not so bad, but when we aren’t, it is a grievous offence and the defaulter(s) should face the law so that justice would prevail. And yet, we go about speaking ill of our leaders and how corrupt they are, forgetting that all the things we do, no matter how little; affects not only those we directly relate with, but the state of our society at large.I know that there are different levels to this things, and I know that what you may be involved in may be minute compared to internet fraud or cybercrime, but I just want to bring to your notice that even that unsupposed extra charges you add to your profit while you trade, those fake or expired goods you sell, that bribe you collect and agree to keep shut of theft, that driver’s license that you keep backdating instead of renewing, or whichever unethical practice that you are involved in, also contributes to marring the state and image of the country.

There are few questions you should try asking yourself and respond as sincere as possible before you go on with this practices, these questions are:

• Are there no legit ways that could put something on my table?
• What do I really stand to gain, does the advantages outweigh the disadvantages?
• Are there any consequences?
• If everyone is involved in illicit activities, how then will the society become better?

Fraudulent practices may somewhat be like a moving train in our society today, but the choice is entirely yours to decide if you want to embrace it as a norm or stand against it.

This is not me trying to judge you but to bring this to your notice. I really hope you’ll meditate on this and work towards refraining from them. Choose to be the change you desire.
