So it’s 1st October and warm wishes are flying all around the space. Excitement about the new month, here and there and for some, a new plan have just be outlined in the To-do list.

It’s a new month and beginning of the last quarter of the year, which means a lot, especially in a year like this when the pandamic has done so much of negativities. And now someone wants to extend warm wishes to you and had the gutts to say “Happy Independence”?

And so they say Nigeria is Sixty today, and so what? who Nigeria epp?
Independence ko, Sixty ni.
Shey Nigeria na country?
When corruption na im second name.
Everything yeye,
With the government wey dey fail us
See Naira na, e dey devalue everyday.
To chop sef na wahala, everything cost, nothing person fit buy.
Our schools nko? e no get head
What of health center? e no get head
Even job sef no dey. If you like go school, use book kee yourself you go still put your certificate inside brown envelope place am under your armpit trek under sun dey find work. But one person go just sing ‘jati jati’ after e don smoke weed, and he go blow, just like that. Chai, this life no balance and Nigeria na everything opposite of balance. E no easy at all.

You see, all these and more is being said about Nigeria daily, and I can’t help but admit that they are not incorrect.
Yes, in Nigeria, corruption is the order of the day
Yes, Nothing seems working in the country
Yes, we are left to deal with a very bad and recycled government
Yes, the currency keeps devaluing by the day
Yes, Inflation doesn’t even describe the market language spoken in the markets but hyper-inflation does.
Yes, It’s also true that the educational system is faulty and the rate of unemployment keeps increasing by the day.
And yes, there is something apparently wrong with the Nation’s value system.

So shouldn’t we just write off the country and think about nothing but moving out of it confine?
No, we shouldn’t write it off
No, we shouldn’t frown while we apprehend our identities as Nigerians.
And No, we shouldn’t refer to the country as ‘hopeless’

You know why?
Because Buhari doesn’t own the Country but we all do and the Government alone doesn’t owe the betterment of the country but you and I also do.

So today, let’s celebrate peace!
Let’s celebrate sleeping and waking without and not finding ourselves in different locations!
Let’s celebrate the physical togetherness inspite of so much threats of separation by groups!

So I open say;
Happy Independence Day Nigeria.
Cheers to a land worth the sweat and struggles of our past heroes!

Amidst all, let’s remain hopeful.
